A Tough Night For Zenith Racing At Speedway City Track Championship
6/12/2007 1:22:29 PM - Zenith Racing
Zenith Racing had a night the team would rather forget at the second round of the Speedway City Sprintcar Track Championship in Adelaide on Saturday 1st December 2007. An impressive start to the evening’s action quickly went sour leaving the team with a badly damaged racecar and an uphill battle to be ready for the post Christmas flurry of races.
Team driver Craig Van Der Stelt shone in the first heat race of the night winning from the fourth starting position. “We were really good in the first heat on Saturday night and we thought we had sorted out the new Triple X chassis that we debuted at the last meeting”, commented Craig. “We were able to move forward in the heat race to take the win when know one else was going forward so it is a credit to the hard work put in by the whole team over the last few weeks to prepare the racecar”.
How quickly things can change in Sprintcar racing. In Craig’s second heat while again working his way through traffic another competitor spun leaving Craig with know where to go and the heavy impact upended the Zenith Racing machine.
“That’s racing”, was Craig’s reaction. “There’s not much we can do about it now. Unfortunately for the Zenith Racing team the crash has made a big dent in our racing budget for the rest of the season. It’s not great to get about 50 laps out of a chassis before you bend it but we will regroup and be back after Christmas”.
With a lower than expected car count on hand the crew on the Zenith Racing team worked feverishly to patch up the car for the final and in the end salvaged a 10th place finish despite the damage from the earlier heat race incident.
“The Zenith Racing team are never one to give up and pieced the car back together as good as we could in the little time that was available between the last heat and the final”, said Craig. “It was a handful to drive in the final but there wasn’t much more we could have done with it”.
The Zenith Racing team is proudly supported by: Zenith Customs Creations; Croft Constructions; and Protec Paints.
